We're using the Revised Common Lectionary to guide our teaching.

From an Old Testament perspective, the purpose of sacrifice was a way of bringing people into the presence of God. More than sacrifice merely being ‘giving something up’, it is perhaps better understood as a giving over of the valuable, the sacred. Pastor Donny explores why God is worthy of our sacrifices and challenges us with the question, “What do you need to sacrifice?”

Pastor Donny leads the discussion this week on the subject of 'sacrifice' as we continue our series on How We Change- Practicing the Ways of Jesus.

This week, we continued our series How We Change: Practicing the Way of Jesus. Pastor Dary explored Sacrifice as a spiritual practice. In our age of self-fulfillment, what might it look like for us to trust God and obediently live in a posture of self-denial? The way Dallas Willard said it, “Deliberately forsaking the security of satisfying our own needs with our resources in the faith and hope that God will sustain us.” May it be true of us.

How We Change: Sacrifice

The First Sign

Good morning! Happy to have you online with us today. We're using the Revised Common Lectionary to guide our teaching. This morning Darren teaches from the gospel of John.

We kicked off a new series this weekend called How We Change: Practicing the Way of Jesus. This week Pastor Jeff Lucas introduced the series by inviting us to contemplate the idea of practice. Here’s a big question - how do we change? We’ve just navigated our way through the New Year season, traditionally a time when we look at our lives and consider what changes we might need to make. In this weekend’s message, Pastor Jeff asks the question - how is change different for the Christian? Is change just about making the right choices and resolving to do better, or is there help at hand that is beyond ourselves? What role do we have in helping change happen in our lives?

‘How We Change’ is to focus on the way of Jesus. If you catch this, you catch this series (and if we miss this, we miss the series). Focusing on the way of Jesus keeps our spiritual practices vibrant and relational (and keeps us from a focus on the practices themselves which will turn stale and legalistic. Focus on the way of Jesus – that’s where the life and vibrancy and flourishing is found.

As we kick off our "How We Change" sermon series, Pastor John leads our discussion on the subject of 'practice'
