Resources for Nourishing Lives

Return to The Well

The content below is intended to provide a variety of helpful resources on difficult yet relevant subjects, in this case, divorce. We recognize that some sources may come into question for any number of reasons. We believe God uses imperfect people every day, so please know that the following authors, speakers, and even ministries, are just as fallible as anyone — yet if they may be helpful, we want to share them with you.

Overview

Divorce can be a difficult season to understand and walk through. In the Church, divorce can be a somewhat divisive topic. Timberline Church is committed to speaking Biblical truth with grace, recognizing that every person's situation is unique.

Divorce can also lead to seasons of grief, depression, or anxiety. If you are experiencing any of these, we also have resources available for these topics here in The Well. As always, our pastoral team is available to provide support and care.

Pastoral Messages

Pastoral Messages

Pastor Jeff Lucas looks at one of the most challenging passages in the new Testament as Jesus talks about divorce, as well as the way we treat people who don’t seem important to us. Through this message, we are challenged to consider God’s wonderful offer of salvation to us all — the gift that we could never earn, but only receive with joy! Watch the full message by clicking here.

In a Wednesday Night Community teaching, Pastor Brent Cunningham tackles the topic of divorce and what Scripture has to say about it in the context of Matthew 19. Watch the full message and how Pastor Brent speaks about Old Testament law and its outlook on divorce and how that perspective relates today by clicking here.

In this message, Pastor John Mehl talks about how Jesus teaches his people about the most intimate of relationships from God’s point of view. In fact, Jesus continues using all kinds of object lessons to show his people kingdom values and that everything is far richer by his hand than our own! Watch the full messageby clicking here.

Divorce and Remarriage in the Church: Biblical Solutions for Pastoral Realities, by David Instone-Brewer

Will God allow me to divorce my abusive husband? Would it be a sin if I remarried? Divorce and remarriage are major pastoral issues facing every church. Yet when we turn to Scripture for guidance, we often hear conflicting messages about its teachings. David Instone-Brewer shows how, when properly understood, the New Testament provides faithful, realistic and wise guidance of crucial importance and practical help for the church today. Divorce and Remarriage in the Church is accessible on Amazon in print, digital, or audio formats by clicking here.
