Cody and Emily Van Pelt: Local
LOCAL - A few years ago, our family went to the Dominican Republic on a missions trip with Timberline Church. It was
a life changing trip, and we fell in love with the Haitian schools and churches that we visited there in the DR.
When we got back, we told the trip leader, Jackie, that we were definitely “in” for next year’s trip. She smiled
and said that the church needed trip leaders or there would be no trip. We volunteered to lead the next trip
and had a great experience doing so!
Long story short again, we felt God tugging at our hearts to do more. Little nudges here and there told us
that it was great that we were leading trips and getting involved. But we kept feeling the words “do more”.
So to us, “do more” meant moving to the Dominican Republic and getting directly involved. So that's what we
did!
And we LOVED it! But, again, long story short, we had to move back to the U.S. And we're now, as of 2022,
Assemblies of God U.S. missionary associates working interculturally with Serve 6.8 right here in Colorado!
Throughout this process, we’ve focused specifically on one verse. In Acts 20:24, Paul says “But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” We want to make sure that it’s obvious to God that we know our lives are worth nothing to us, unless we use them for the work He has assigned to us!
Cody and Emily have two children: Evan and Tatum.
