“For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” -Romans 12:4-5
I grew up playing softball. Participating in a team sport showed me how to work alongside others to accomplish a common goal, in this case, to win! Each one of my teammates had a responsibility that benefited the whole team and each one did their job well. I would not have a successful game if I was trying to play each position all by myself, it simply would not work, as entertaining as that might be. I believe this is no different than the work of Missions. We all have a role to play that will accomplish the goal of having every nation, tribe, and tongue hear of the Good News of Jesus Christ. And could you imagine trying to accomplish that only one way? Again, it simply wouldn’t work, we need every person to “join the game.” And just like there are different positions in softball, there are different roles in Missions.
- Pray: Prayer is the fuel for Missions. “Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Luke 10:2)
- Send: “And how are they to preach unless they are sent?” (Romans 10:14-15)
- Go: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19)
- Welcome: “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” (Matthew 25:35)
- Mobilize: “to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,” (Ephesians 4:12)
Our goal in the Missions Office is for everyone who calls Timberline Church home will recognize and activate their God given responsibility in Missions. What God given responsibility has God given to you? You may know or you may not, but you do not have to discover it alone!
- Pray and ask God where he wants you to engage.
