I often get asked, "How did you first get involved in foster care?" The more I answer that question, the more I realize how complex the answer is for me. Was this a calling? Was there some compelling message that sparked a fire in my heart? Has my heart always been turned toward the vulnerable? Were my life experiences what grew my compassion and drive to serve the fostering community? Truthfully, I don’t really know the answers to these questions.
There is a deep longing within me to see the strings of connection between every relationship, prayer, and event in my life that have come together to design the tapestry that is my life this side of heaven. Honestly, I can exhaust myself with these wonderings that constantly go through my mind. But here’s where I find rest: God knows. The Creator of the universe, the King of all, my heavenly Father—He knows me. He knows me better than I know myself, and He has called me into this mission field. I don’t know the answers, but He does, and I trust and follow Him.
Isn’t that the beautiful thing about God? For those of us who love Him, all things work together for good (Romans 8:28). He uses all our life experiences, gifts, and weaknesses for His good. His plan for me isn’t the same as His plan for you, but He knows us each personally. Our job is simply to walk in relationship with Him, allowing ourselves to be transformed by Him.
For almost twenty years, a mighty group of believers have been gathering together in Northern Colorado, praying for the vulnerable and those who support them. They listen and learn about the needs of children and families impacted by the child welfare system, support one another in their work, and pray for more people in our community to see and hear the needs of the vulnerable and to take action.
It was because of these mighty prayers and the intentional steps of action that these individuals took that equipped and supported my family and me to step into serving God through foster care. My role in this mission field has looked different over the years, but one thing has remained: God has provided again and again. I have never been alone.
Today, I am honored to lead this dedicated group of believers who continually gather to pray, listen, learn, support one another, and invite more people to join this mission.
Bridge the Gap is a Christian Regional Alliance, which was founded 18 years ago by Missions Pastor Kari Stewart. We are dedicated to serving children and families impacted by the child welfare system. We partner with individuals, organizations, and churches in Northern Colorado to offer support, inspiration, and resources.
For Current Supporters of Children and Families in the Child Welfare System:We host monthly Regional Alliance Gatherings to connect and support leaders in the fostering community.
For Those Looking to Engage: Our quarterly Roundtable Conversations invite community members to join us in serving children and families, offering education and inspiration.
For Families or Organizations Seeking Resources: Our Resource Map and Liaison Program helps bridge gaps in the community by connecting families with the resources they need. We believe families thrive through caring communication and supportive relationships, and our liaison program is designed to guide families in accessing and utilizing these resources effectively.
