Doing Something Big for Missions

by Missions Team on April 07, 2025

My name is Bryson Reine, I’m 13 years old and in 7th grade and I live in Colorado Springs, CO. Over the past three years, I’ve climbed six 14,000-foot mountains in Colorado and raised $81,000 for Boys and Girls Mission Challenge (BGMC) and World Serve International! I want to share how this all started and hopefully inspire you to do something BIG for missions too.

It all began about four years ago when I knew I wanted to do something for missions but wasn’t sure what. I thought maybe I could kick 1,000 soccer goals and raise $1,000, or something like that, but I wasn’t sure what would be big enough. Then, one summer at kids camp, I felt like God told me to climb mountains for missions. My family loves hiking, and we’re always doing cool, adventurous trips, so it wasn’t too crazy of an idea. I told my dad, and he knew right away it was going to be a big challenge!

We decided to climb FOUR 14ers in one day.  There are 52 14,000 foot mountains in Colorado, and we picked Democrat, Lincoln, Cameron, and Bross. It was so hard, but we did it! It took us 8 hours, and we climbed 5,000 feet in total elevation over about 7 miles. It was tough, but it made me realize that we can do anything with grit and with Jesus’s help.

The next year, my family went to a missions experience hosted by Worldserve, where we got to see how people in Africa live. We tasted the food they eat (it was super bland kinda like oatmeal), carried heavy water jugs, and even saw the dirty water that they drink. Then, we learned about something called a drip irrigation system, which collects rainwater and helps grow more food using less water. We tasted the food they could have if they had the drip system, and it was so much better and full of nutrients! I learned that it only costs $1,000 to give one family their own drip irrigation system. That’s when I knew I had to do something “Massive” for missions. So, me and my dad climbed Mount Massive which is the second tallest peak in Colorado, that year! That was HARD! But we did it and we met people along the trail who kept encouraging me and was shocked that an 11 year old was doing this.   One of those people we met even gave to my missions cause.

Last year, I invited 8 of my friends, along with their dads, to join me and my dad to climb Mount Quandary together. That year was really special because I realized that I could inspire others to do something big for missions too! You don’t have to climb mountains like I did, but you can do anything to help people around the world. Maybe you like painting, kicking soccer goals, baking cakes, or even knitting winter hats. Just ask God what you can do, and He will show you!

So, what will YOU do for missions? People in other countries are counting on you! You don’t have to do something huge, just do something, and you’ll be making a difference, and who knows, YOU might even inspire others to do the same.
